Since this decision of the government, the LGBT community in Italy has been protesting on a large scale. Hundreds of people have taken to the streets in Milan for the rights of gays. Protesters also waved LGBT flags across the city to show their anger at the government's decision.

Some Italian courts have ruled in favor of allowing same-sex couples to adopt each other's children. In addition, Milan recognized the registration of surrogate children for same-sex couples.
