KKR CEO Venky Mysore told ESPNcricinfo that he noted that Venkatesh's name was in the discussion, but the team was looking for an experienced player and that's why Rahane was finally selected.

Let us tell you that all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was bought for Rs 23.75 crore in the IPL 2025 auction and has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team, while Ajinkya Rahane, who was bought for Rs 1.5 crore, was made the captain.

“He has played 185 IPL matches, 200 international matches in different formats. He has captained India, captained Mumbai, captained in the IPL as well. And he has been playing since the first season of the IPL. All this is very important. There should be no surprise in making Rahane the captain.”
