China: A young man reached his parents after swimming for 3 hours in flood water, said - he was worried

Due to the massive floods in southern China, many families are struggling to stay safe. In one such incident, after losing contact with his parents, a man risked his life by swimming in flood waters for hours to inquire about their well-being.

39 people have died and about 4,00,000 residents have been affected in floods caused by heavy rains and the collapse of several dams in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, South China Morning Post reports. After not being able to contact his parents, Ji said he could not sleep all night because he was worried that his 63-year-old father might be swept away in the floods.

Took a swimming trip with a friend

On July 6, a 30-year-old man named Jie (Xie) swam for three hours holding on to a tire to reach his parents' village in Qinzhou. A friend was also with him in this journey. Ji and his two siblings live in the city, while his parents live in a village about 10 kilometers away.

Worrying about parents

Last night, Ji's mother had called him and told him that his father had gone to save the previously harvested paddy but had not returned yet. He was worried about them. By then the village had been flooded and the houses were submerged in water up to the first floor. Due to rising flood waters, electricity was also lost, causing disruption in mobile signals.

Ji's family owns two houses in the village. One house built on the mountain remained safe from the flood but the other house where harvested paddy was kept got submerged in water. His father had planned to move Paddy to the first floor.

Father smiled after seeing Je

For the journey, Je and his friend bought two new truck tires from a shop in the city. He swam the last kilometer before reaching his parents' home. On reaching there, they came to know that Je's father was trapped on the upper floor of the house due to the rapidly rising flood waters. Je said that his father smiled upon seeing him but immediately scolded him that he was risking his life for a little rice.

After this, Je took his father through a narrow path behind the house and they slowly walked back towards the house built on the mountain. When his mother saw him completely drenched, she cried and scolded him.
