In the early hours of Wednesday, the Russian army fired 33 rockets at civilian targets in the Ukrainian city of Kherson. During this fighting with Russia intensified and more tanks and armored vehicles were deployed. This information was given by the army of Ukraine.

The UK Defense Ministry said fighting was particularly intense around the strategic eastern city of Bakhmut in Donetsk province and Svyatov in Luhansk province in the north. 

In Bakhmut, home to 70,000 people before the war and now in ruins, Reuters reporters saw a large residential building on fire, while debris strewn the streets and windows in most buildings were blown out.

Ukrainian military analyst Oleh Zhdanov said the fighting has intensified with Russia deploying armored vehicles and tanks. 

Putin said he was open to talks and blamed Ukraine and its Western allies for failing to engage in talks. 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the state TASS agency in comments published on Monday that the United States and its NATO allies, together with Ukraine, want to defeat Russia on the battlefield.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reaffirmed her government's "full support" for Ukraine in a call with President Volodymyr Zelensky. This was confirmed by his office. 

Zelensky said, we will continue to prepare the armed forces and the security of Ukraine for the next year. This will be a decisive year. We understand the dangers of winter. We understand what needs to be done in the spring.
