Indian-origin pediatrician Dr. Angraj Khillan has been awarded the Australian of the Year award for 2023. Dr. Angraj, a resident of the state of Victoria, was selected for the award for providing health education and health care to many Australian communities.
Dr Khillan, 56, is the co-founder of the Health Awareness Society of Australia (HASA). It endeavors to dispel myths, taboos and misconceptions about health through forums in multiple languages. hASA conducts virtual sessions through the platform in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and Arabic on topics ranging from mental health to Covid vaccination.
It is an honor and a privilege, but it also brings with me a lot of responsibility to work hard to meet the needs of Australia's multicultural communities,' Dr Khillan told Australia Today.
As a student in India, he collected money for his medical studies outside the temple. After moving to Melbourne in 2010, Khillan worked to spread awareness about domestic violence and dowry harassment. He played an important role in the field of healthcare and health education.
