Small cars in India: Maruti Suzuki India believes that small hatchback cars are perfect for first time car buyers. The company expects that the sales numbers of the small car segment will continue to grow despite the declining share in the overall domestic passenger vehicle market. A senior official of the company said this. At a time when the sales of the small car segment have been affected, Maruti Suzuki is focusing on first time car buyers. In such a situation, the company's focus is on customers in rural and suburban areas - Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “We believe that the total sales number (of small cars) will increase, but as a percentage of the total number of passenger vehicles, which is presently 38 percent, there may be a decrease in it. The share of hatchbacks in the total passenger vehicle market was around 45-46 percent, but it fell to around 38 percent last year. On the other hand the share of SUV segment increased to 40 percent and became the largest selling segment.

He said that if you look at the sales numbers, the size of the small car segment is still huge. Asked why MSIL expects a boom in the small car segment, Srivastava said that in future, along with India's economic growth, transportation needs will also increase. He said that there will be a large number of customers who are buying a car for the first time. If you are a first time car buyer, it means that the demand for the hatchback will continue.
