From where Bose gave the slogan of 'Delhi Chalo', it will become the National Monument of Singapore
Padang has special significance for the Indian community in Singapore. Because this is where the Indian soldiers first set up their camps when the British established their outposts on the island.
Singapore is celebrating its 57th National Day today. On this proud occasion of the country, the famous green site 'Padang' will be declared a 'National Monument' of Kosingapore. Padang is the same place from where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave the slogan 'Delhi Chalo' in June 1943. This iconic site will be the first green and open space to be included in the list of 74 other national monuments of Singapore.
Singapore's National Heritage Board (NHB) said on Monday that the monument would be protected. Given its strong national, historical and social importance, it will be protected at the highest level under the Monuments Protection Act. "Padang stands as a witness to a historic visit to Singapore that reflects our Singaporean identity and our place in the world," Edwin Tong, Minister of Culture, Communities and Youth, said on Monday.

Professor Rajesh Rai, Head of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, elaborated on Padang's association with the Azad Hind Fauj (INA). Netaji gave the slogan of 'Delhi Chalo'
It was Padang itself, where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave several speeches to thousands of INA soldiers and the local Indian population, Rai said on Monday. It was here that he also gave the slogan of 'Delhi Chalo' and established a regiment called 'Jhansi ki Rani'. Just before the end of the war, Bose had established the INA memorial on the southern bank of Padang.
