A security guard working at the British Embassy in Berlin has been sentenced to 13 years and two months for passing sensitive information to Russia. The sentence was pronounced by a London court on Friday.

The court was told that David Ballantyne Smith spent three years collecting sensitive information. The court said that the case against Smith may be between 2020 and 2021, but his involvement has come to the fore two years ago.

'Smith admits to letter containing sensitive information'

During the hearing, Smith admitted that he had sent two letters containing sensitive information to the Russian embassy in Berlin. Earlier this week, Smith told the court he was remorseful for his actions. He did this work after a dispute with his colleague.

He told the court that he had filmed several documents while drunk, but had not sent them to anyone. However, the court rejected his arguments.

The court said that Smith committed this crime with the intention of helping Russia. He said that your (Smith) aim was to harm British interests. Smith argued in court that he was suffering from mental health issues at the time of the crime. However, the court rejected his plea.

The court said that I do not see any logical reason between depression and your Smith decision to betray the country.
