According to the Observatory, a total of 31 people, including 12 pro-government fighters, were killed while gathering truffles in the desert east of Hama (the central city). Earlier, at least 26 people were reported dead, which was confirmed by the official Syrian news agency SANA.

Source of income for hundreds of poor Syrians

The people of the country struggling with 12 years of war and economic crisis earn money through truffles. Be aware that the cost of this vegetable is very high and desert truffles are sold at a high price.

Between February and April, hundreds of poor people find this vegetable in the Syrian desert and sell it for a huge price. At the same time, the jihadists have covered this desert with landmines and weapons. The authorities have also warned against visiting high-risk areas.

230 people died since February

According to the Observatory, more than 230 people have been hit by landmines left by terrorists since February. Of these, 15 were strangled to death by IS while searching for truffles. In February, IS fighters on motorcycles shot dead 68 people.

You would be surprised to know but Syria produces some of the best and quality truffles in the world. This vegetable is sold at a price of $ 25 (Rs 2046.14) per kg.
