Constitution of Special Division Bench
A special division bench has been constituted by the chief justice of the court, Muhammad Amir Bhatti, to hear the matter. Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Mirza Waqas Rauf have been appointed in this bench. Eight appeals related to this matter will be heard by the bench today.
Pervez Musharraf is also an accused
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Zardari, late General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, five accused and police officers found guilty of the crimes have received notices, according to news agency ANI. Pervez Musharraf was made an accused in the case and a warrant was issued for his arrest. However, it is feared that now that he has passed away, the appeal will be dismissed.
Pakistan's only woman prime minister
Let us tell you, Benazir Bhutto has been the first and so far the only woman Prime Minister of Pakistan. He was assassinated while participating in a rally in Rawalpindi on 27 December 2007. Aitzaz, Sher Zaman, and Hasnain will testify in the court today. Meanwhile, Abdul Rasheed is lodged in Adiala Jail and the fifth defendant, Rafaqat, has died. The two police officers involved in the case, Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad, are out on bail. Both were sentenced to 17 years in prison and fined 10 lakh Pakistani rupees.
Murder during election rally
Significantly, Benazir Bhutto was assassinated while addressing an election rally at the historic Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi. Benazir was killed allegedly by a 15-year-old suicide bomber. According to a report, more than 20 party workers were also killed and 71 others were seriously injured in the attack.
