Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has given a big decision on inter-religious marriage, saying that an adult girl can go wherever she wants on her own free will. The court has ordered the police to leave the couple living in Kalyan in Thane district safely at their home, while the girl's father appealed to the High Court to bring back her 19-year-old daughter.

Girl expressed her desire to live with her husband

During the hearing in the Bombay High Court on the petition, the girl told the Division Bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice Manish Pitley that she wanted to live with her husband. While giving the verdict on this petition, the judge said that we make it clear that the adult daughter is free to marry and go wherever she wishes.

'Inter-caste marriages should be encouraged'

Hearing the petition, the bench said, "The Supreme Court has said that inter-caste marriages should be encouraged to bring homogeneity in the society." Justice Shinde said, 'There are 3,000 sects and religions in the country. People of different religions live every 25 kilometers. 130 crore people live together in this country.

The girl was engaged on 6 December

In fact, the father of a 19-year-old girl had approached the Bombay High Court and said that his daughter should be handed over to him dead or alive. The father had said that due to the Covid-19 lockdown, his daughter was usually at home and got engaged on December 6 last year with her consent. The father said that his daughter was happy with the engagement.

Girl left father's house on 30 December

After this, on December 30, the girl left the house at around 9.30am and said to visit the tailor's shop. But when she did not return for a long time, the family started searching for her and went to the Khadkapada police station to file a missing report, but the senior police officer did not register a missing complaint and asked the family to wait for 24 hours.

Girl married a boy of other religion

In the evening of the same day, the policemen of Khadkapada police station told the family that their daughter had already married a boy of another religion living nearby and was living with her husband's family. After this, the father appealed to the High Court to bring his daughter back and file a case against the boy. However the High Court has refused to intervene in the case.
