About 75 thousand healthcare workers from Virginia, California and three other states of America went on strike on Wednesday morning due to lack of salary and staff.

Picketing at Kaiser Permanente hospitals

After this, picketing started in Kaiser Permanente hospitals. Kaiser Permanente is one of the nation's largest insurers and healthcare system operators. It has 39 hospitals across the country.

Thousands of employees sat on strike

A coalition of Kaiser Permanente unions, representing approximately 85 thousand of the health system's employees nationally, approved a three-day strike in California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington, and a one-day strike in Virginia and Washington, DC.

Emergency services will continue

The strike includes licensed vocational nurses, home health aides and ultrasound sonographers, radiology, X-ray, surgical, pharmacy and emergency department technicians. Doctors are not participating in the strike. Kaiser says its hospitals, including emergency rooms, will remain open during the protest.

The company said thousands of temporary workers were being brought in to make up for the shortfall during the strike. However, due to the strike, appointments may be delayed and non-urgent procedures may be rescheduled.
