Princess Diana and King Charles were married 41 years ago. A man named Nigel had preserved a piece of a 41-year-old wedding cake that is now to be auctioned off. The cake will be auctioned in the UK by Door and Rees Auctions.
A piece of cake from the wedding of Princess Diana and King Charles is going up for auction! According to the New York Post, more than 3,000 guests attended this royal wedding in 1981. One of them was Nigel Ricketts who passed away last year. It is now revealed that Nigel had preserved a piece of the 41-year-old wedding cake, which is now to be auctioned off. The cake will be auctioned in the UK by Door and Rees Auctions.
Centerpiece is Part of Fruitcake
According to the New York Post, the piece of cake has a pre-sale estimate of GBP 300 which equates to over Rs 27,000. The cake is packaged in its original box which is why it is expected to sell more.
According to The Post, as 23 official wedding cakes were made for the royal wedding, it looks like the icing centerpiece is part of the fruitcake. This cake had five layers and this cake was five feet tall.
Princess Diana and King Charles III were married on 29 July 1981. It was watched by millions on TV and was also called the 'Wedding of the Century', however, the marriage was tumultuous. Charles and Diana separated in 1992, four years before they legally divorced.
