Strong winds and heavy rains are causing havoc in many parts of Spain. Four people died after falling into the sea in three incidents on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. The deaths came amid warnings of high waves along the coast of Portugal in the south-west.

At the same time, a man and a woman died after falling into the Atlantic Ocean on the northern coast of Spain. Spain's EFE news agency quoted local authorities as saying the man was a British citizen. Emergency services said rescue workers recovered bodies in two separate incidents, which occurred about 10 kilometers apart on the west coast of the northern city of Gijón.
Woman dies after hitting rocks
Authorities said the woman probably died after falling into the sea and being hit by waves against rocks.
