Pakistan has come down to seventh place in the Human Development Index as compared to last time. According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) report, it has been ranked 161 out of 192 countries in 2021-22. Bhutan is ranked 127th, Bangladesh 129th, India 132nd and Nepal at 143rd.

Human Development Index and Pakistan: In the Human Development Index, Pakistan has come down seven places from the last time. According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) report, it has been ranked 161 out of 192 countries in 2021-22. The report titled 'Uncertain Times, Unstable Life: Shaping Our Future in a Changing World' has been released. 

According to the report, the average age in Pakistan is 66.1 years. The average age of entry to schooling is eight years. Gross per capita national income is $4,624. The report has identified that climate change is affecting the world order, holding back the growth that has been achieved in the past few years. The report said that various climate shocks are affecting the world order. This is lagging behind the development that was achieved in the last few years. Apart from this effect, the devastating floods in Pakistan are an example of climate shock. Switzerland tops the index. While Norway and Iceland are in second and third place respectively.

Switzerland leads in the latest HDI report. Norway and Iceland are in second and third place. South Asian countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka. Only Pakistan and Afghanistan (180th place) are in the low human development category. Bhutan (127), Bangladesh (129), India (132) and Nepal (143) are in the medium human development category, and crisis-stricken Sri Lanka has improved its position by nine points. Now he has reached the 73rd position. Whereas Maldives is at 90th place. 

The report found that in the year of the survey, about 90 percent of countries saw human development reversals that lead to global disruptions. The News quoted the report as saying that the two major factors for these disruptions are the Korana epidemic and the Russo-Ukraine war. The HDI is a measure of the standard of living, health and education of countries. This is the first time in the last 30 years that human development has been in reverse for two consecutive years in most countries.
