Italy's most wanted mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, who has been absconding for the last 30 years, has been arrested by the Italian army on Monday. Mafia Matteo Messina Denaro, battling cancer, was on the run since 1993.

Known as 'Diabolik' and 'U Siccu', Matteo Messina Denaro carried out two bombings in Sicily in 1992, killing his opposition lawyers Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. In this case Denaro was sentenced to life imprisonment, terming him as the main culprit.

Please inform that 60-year-old Messina Denaro was arrested from 'La Maddalena' in Palermo. After his arrest, he was taken in a minivan to an undisclosed location. According to the information, he was wearing a brown fur jacket, spectacles and a brown and white woolen cap. Judicial sources said that he had undergone cancer operation last year. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the arrest as a major victory for the country.

Police said in September 2022 that Messina Denaro was running Mafia activities in the area around the western Sicilian city of Trapani, despite his long disappearance. Messina Denaro, who had eluded the police for decades, was the last of the top three fugitives on the run for a long time who were yet to be caught by the law.
