John Kerry, the special envoy of US President Joe Biden, will be visiting India, Bangladesh and the UAE from April 1-9 on matters related to climate change. Carrie will travel to these countries to discuss the issue ahead of the summit held on climate change between 22–23 April and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) later this year.
The agenda for the talks during this period is to reduce global warming. The most interesting thing in his visit is that he will neither go to Pakistan nor talk to any leader there. In April 22-23, a climate conference has been announced, which invites 40 countries of the world but Pakistan is not invited.
According to the news of The Dawn, the Ministry of External Affairs had already indicated that Pakistan is excluded from the Climate Summit. The newspaper has written the reason for this because Pakistan emits very little greenhouse gases which adversely affects the environment.
The US State Department said that US President Joe Biden has invited 40 world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to a two-day virtual summit. The purpose of the conference is to underline the intricate benefits and importance of taking concrete steps to tackle climate change. The White House said last week, 'This will prove to be a milestone in the passage of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) to be held in November this year in Glasgow'.
According to the White House, the summit will be broadcast live. The main goal of this summit and COP 26 is to accelerate efforts to keep global temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius. 17 countries, which are responsible for 80 per cent of the emissions globally and they have 80 per cent role in the global GDP, will participate in this conference.
