The Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported that the explosion occurred at the Yanhu market in Xi'an when several residents were having breakfast or buying vegetables at the market. The city's municipal office had initially said that several people were trapped under the debris after the incident. The reason behind the incident is also not known.
