Big gap between demand and supply

According to the report of ARY News, representatives of Balochistan chapter of Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) said that there is a huge gap between demand and supply, which has led to the crisis. “The flour mill owners were being blamed for the crisis, when in fact, the provincial government has imposed inter-provincial and inter-district restrictions on the transportation of wheat during the harvesting season,” he said. 

Flour mill owners held the government responsible

Earlier on September 13, flour mill owners had blamed the provincial government for the ongoing flour crisis in the province and alleged that the food department failed to procure wheat as per the requirement of this year, ARY News reported. Is.

20 kg flour available for 2500 rupees

Significantly, Pakistan has increased the prices of wheat and flour by 10-20 percent. In Balochistan, a 20 kg bag of flour was being sold for Rs 2,380 to Rs 2,500. In addition, due to skyrocketing prices, flour was not available in most shops across the province. 

On Friday, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said in its report that wheat flour prices rose by an average of 7.51 per cent to PKR 106.38/kg for the week ended September 15 against PKR 98.95/kg for the week ended September 8. Was.

One kg of flour available in Karachi for Rs 125

The price of wheat flour in Karachi has increased from PKR 20-25 per kg to PKR 120-125 per kg in a few days. Similarly, the price of wheat (cereals) rose by 14 per cent to PKR 88/kg in a week from PKR 77.42/kg in the previous week. 

Vegetable crisis 

According to The Express Tribune, Ismail Iqbal Security Head of Research Fahad Rauf said, "Wheat has jumped 30 per cent in three months (according to PBS)." After the severe floods, the supply of food in the country is decreasing. The prices of vegetables have also gone up as the whole country is facing shortage of vegetables. Large parts of the country are submerged - especially the provinces of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh in the south.
