Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal Twitter handle was briefly hacked on Sunday, prompting a tweet that India has officially legalized bitcoin. The account was immediately secured after the matter was taken up with Twitter. It was not known how long the Prime Minister's Twitter handle was hacked. The Prime Minister has more than 7.34 crore followers on Twitter.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said, 'The Twitter handle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was hacked for a while. The matter was taken up with Twitter and the account was immediately secured. Any tweets shared while the account has been hacked for some time should be ignored.

After the Prime Minister's Twitter handle was hacked, a tweet also claimed that India has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them among its citizens. A link was also shared in this regard in which people were asked to hurry. It said, the future is in front of you today.

Several users immediately said that the account appeared to have been hacked. Youth Congress President Srinivas B.V. Like some people posted a screenshot of the now deleted tweet and tweeted, 'Good morning Modi ji, Sab chaga si?'

It is known that India's stance on cryptocurrencies is strict. Modi has been vocal in highlighting the risks associated with cryptocurrencies.

Recently, the Prime Minister discussed the issue at the Democracy Summit hosted by US President Joe Biden and in internal meetings with government officials. The government worries that cryptocurrencies could be used to lure investors with misleading claims, finance terrorist activities and money laundering. The Central Government is likely to introduce a Bill on Cryptocurrencies.

As soon as we became aware of this activity, our teams took the necessary steps to secure the hacked account. Our investigation has revealed that there are no indications of any other affected accounts at this time.
