A new feature will be added in UPI. The Reserve Bank has said that after the introduction of this feature, the experience of making payments through UPI will change. With this new feature, apart from online shopping, you will be able to pay for many new services.

On Wednesday RBI said that UPI services will be expanded soon. Now customers can invest in security and make on-demand payments for delivery of goods or services, apart from shopping or hotel booking on the e-commerce platform. RBI has said that a facility will be added to the UPI platform to assist in payments.
Through the 'single-block-and-multiple debits' feature on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform, customers will have greater confidence while making such transactions. Announcing this, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that it has been decided to introduce single-block-and-multiple-debit capacity in UPI. It will ease payments in the e-commerce space. This will make it easier to invest in securities.
New feature in UPI
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that under the new feature, customers will be able to schedule payment orders for any merchant by blocking funds in their bank account. It can be debited as and when required. The governor said that such a facility would enhance transaction reliability, as merchants would be assured of timely payments, while the money would remain in the customer's account till the actual delivery of goods or services.
Will get these services
The governor said that this facility would also be helpful in purchasing government securities using the Direct Retail Scheme of the RBI. He also said that a separate direction will be issued to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to implement this arrangement.
India bill payment system will also change
Das also announced the expansion of the scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to include all payments and collections together. He said that Bharat Bill Payment System is spread in many areas but it does not have the facility to process bills of institutions or groups of individuals. Hence service fee payment, education fee, tax payment and rent collection are out of its purview.
