Police said that the suspect has been identified as Vem Miller, who was stopped by the police at a checkpoint about half a mile from the rally entrance.
Was there a preparation for a third attack on Trump?
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said, we have possibly stopped another assassination attempt. He further said that Vem Miller was plotting to assassinate Trump.
When the 49-year-old suspect, a resident of Las Vegas, was caught by the authorities, he not only had guns, but he also had fake press IDs and VIP passes. The suspect was driving a black SUV that was stopped at a security checkpoint outside Trump's rally.
The accused was released
Miller was charged with illegally possessing a loaded gun and ammunition. But Miller was released on a bail of US$5,000 the same day.
Police said Miller is considered a member of a right-wing anti-government organization.
The Sheriff's Office released a press note. In which he said that the incident did not affect the safety of former President Trump or the people present at the event.
A joint federal statement was issued by the US Attorney's Office, the US Secret Service and the FBI regarding the incident.
The statement said that the US Attorney's Office, the US Secret Service and the FBI are aware of the arrest made by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office on Saturday.
