At least 13 dead, 10 missing and 10 rescued were rescued from different parts of Achham district in far west Nepal due to landslides, Deputy Chief District Officer Dipesh Rizal said. Rizal said the accident happened on Saturday. Normal life has been affected due to power-road disruption due to incessant rains here.
In the wake of the disaster, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has ordered deployment of helicopters for search and rescue operations. It has been raining incessantly in Nepal which has resulted in floods and landslides.
At least two people were killed and 11 went missing in floods and landslides in the Bangbagad area of Nepal's Darchula district last Saturday.
Due to incessant rains, the Lasku and Mahakali rivers were flooded, due to which several houses and two bridges were washed away.
Nepal has been recording many casualties due to floods and landslide disasters during the annual monsoon season.
Many people got buried in the rubble
Local administration and police teams are engaged in rescue work since Saturday morning after landslides at various places in Achham. Achham DSP Narayan Dangi, head of the district police office, said police teams have been mobilized after receiving reports of houses being damaged and buried due to landslides at various places in the district.
600 houses submerged in East Kailali floods
On the other hand, in East Kailali, about 600 houses have been submerged in water due to incessant rains since Friday. According to the police, more than 500 houses were submerged due to flooding of Kandra and Patharia rivers and water entering the settlement.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ved Prakash Joshi, spokesman of the District Police Office, Kailali, said that in Bhajani Municipality-8, about 160 houses were flooded due to the water of the Patharia river entering the settlement.
Sonapetya toll, Dalaikhi toll, Bharatan toll, Janakpur toll and Chhachhar Hawa toll have been flooded, he said. The water level of the river is still rising continuously. Similarly, 250 houses of Milanpur toll, Lal Bojhi and Puliapur toll have been submerged due to rising water level in Kandra river, while about 250 houses of Shibir toll, Ganeshman toll and Dakshinpurwa toll of Bhajani Municipality-7 have also been submerged. There is a flood in the Kendra river here. According to the police, the work of evacuating the flood affected people is going on.
