A massive landslide has occurred in Sichuan province, located in the southwest of China. So far 19 people have died in this. Over 180 personnel were deployed at the spot to help search for people trapped under the debris.

More than 180 jawans were deployed

Chinese media outlet CCTV reported on Sunday, June 4, that more than 180 troops were deployed to the scene to help search for people buried under the rubble. The relief work went on till Sunday afternoon regarding the incident that took place on Saturday.
 

Were employees of Jinyuan Mining Company

According to the report, all those killed were apparently employees of Jinyuan Mining Company. The area where this landslide occurred is considered very unsafe. Apart from this, due to engineering projects and mining operations, large scale landslides occur here.
 

Past events

This is not the first such incident of landslide in China. Even before this, a landslide occurred in a coal mine in northern China. Four people had died in this accident. At the same time, dozen people were injured. Last year i.e. in September 2022, there was a severe flood after the rains.
 
Apart from landslides, strong earthquakes have also occurred in this area. In 2008, an earthquake of magnitude 7.9 hit the region. The news of more than 87 thousand people killed and missing came to light due to this strong earthquake.
