Aang told the Associated Press news agency that after his return from Vietnam on Wednesday, he was stopped at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport. After which he was banned from entering Thailand. She explained that she is staying in Thailand, but needs to leave and re-enter the country to extend her stay.
During a conversation with the AP, Aung told that she was seeking the help of the UN refugee agency to avoid being deported back to Myanmar. They fear severe punishment from Myanmar's military government. Those denied entry into Thailand are usually deported to their last point of departure, but the UN agency has advised them that they may be arrested in Vietnam. After which they will be sent back to Myanmar. Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat confirmed that Aung was denied entry to Thailand due to some issues with his travel document. He said that the authorities concerned have not arrested him. With this there is no plan to send them anywhere at the moment.
