'Money and popularity...'Donald lawyer, after the former president Trump goes on trial, accused of rape

The difficulties of former US President Donald Trump do not seem to be reducing. Trump is preparing to contest the 2024 US presidential election but before that he is facing court proceedings. Trump, who is facing charges in the Stormy Daniels case, is now also facing trial in the case of former columnist E Jean Carroll.

A US court hearing the trial against the former president has been told that Donald Trump raped former US columnist E Jean Carroll and later mocked her with derogatory comments. However, Donald Trump's lawyer argued at the start of the much-anticipated proceedings that Jean Carroll is doing all this to get more money and fame.

Jean Carroll made this allegation

Jean Carroll previously claimed that Donald Trump sexually assaulted her in a changing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. She claimed that Donald Trump first asked her for advice on buying ladies lingerie and then attacked her. Sean Crowley, Jean Carroll's attorney, told the court that while Carroll was inside the dressing room, Trump walked in and suddenly everything changed. Trump is almost twice the size of Carroll so she could not defend herself.

E Jean Carroll first alleged in 2019 and sued Donald Trump for defamation but was unable to include the rape claim. That follows a new law set to take effect in New York in November 2022 that allows victims of sexual assault a year to sue their alleged abusers, even decades after the attacks. Carroll filed a new lawsuit under this law, accusing Donald Trump of "forcible rape and molestation".

Experts say the nature of the lawsuit is not criminal, but the case comes at a time when Donald Trump is facing legal challenges that could jeopardize his second presidential term in 2024. A few weeks ago, Donald Trump faced criminal charges related to secret money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels. With this, Trump has become the first former president to be charged with a crime. However, the former president pleaded not guilty to 34 counts related to payments made just before the 2016 presidential election.

Simultaneously, Donald Trump is also facing investigations into his efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss in Georgia and his alleged mishandling of classified documents and his involvement in the US Capitol attack.
