Civilian deaths

Earlier on March 14, the Myanmar army attacked a Buddhist monastery and killed 28 people. The claim was made by the Karenni Nationalist Defense Force (KNDF), a rebel outfit.

Military rule in Myanmar

Myanmar's army seized power from Aung San Suu Kyi's elected government on February 1, 2021. Subsequently, he and top leaders of his ruling National League for Democracy party were arrested. There were many protests against it and about 2 thousand more civilians died. This military action forced people in most parts of the country to take up arms. 

UN chief raised voice about democracy

Two years ago, the army took over the government in Myanmar. Regarding this, now the head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has raised his voice for the democratic aspirations of the people of Myanmar. He has warned Myanmar's military that the military's planned election crackdown on civilians and political leaders could increase instability in the country. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the Secretary-General strongly condemns all forms of violence in Myanmar, as it is worsening the situation in the country and also promoting serious regional implications.
