Russia-Ukraine War: Since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine, NATO has helped Kyiv in many ways, including sending weapons. Now NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has appealed to South Korea to increase military support for Ukraine.
Stoltenberg is currently in Seoul. The main purpose of his visit is to strengthen ties with US allies in the face of war in Ukraine and growing competition with China.
Stoltenberg thanked south korea for helping ukraine
At the Chee Institute for Advanced Studies in Seoul, Stoltenberg thanked South Korea for its assistance to Ukraine. Also urged to increase it further. He said that Ukraine is in urgent need of ammunition in this war. At the same time, Russia is describing its invasion as a "special operation". The Secretary General of NATO further stated that they urge South Korea to take action on the specific issue of military support to Ukraine.
NATO allies Changed the policy
Stoltenberg said that ultimately it is up to South Korea whether to provide military aid to Ukraine, but added that many NATO allies have now changed that policy. In which a policy was made not to export arms to countries during the conflict.
South Korea has signed major deals delivering hundreds of tanks, aircraft and other weapons to NATO member Poland since the start of the war.
But South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol has said his law is against providing arms to countries in conflict. Due to which it is difficult to supply arms to Ukraine. To this, Stoltenberg said that countries like Germany, Sweden and Norway also had similar policies but they were changed.
Ukraine will have to cooperate in every way
Stoltenberg said that if we do not want the victory of autocracy and tyranny, they will have to cooperate with Ukraine with everything, including weapons. The NATO chief said that under no circumstances should Russia be allowed to win. He said that it is not only important for Ukraine. The defeat of Kyiv would send a message to countries like China that they can get what they want by force.
Stoltenberg also said that we should hold talks with China on arms control, climate change and other issues. But we know that Beijing presents a challenge to our values, our interests, and our security. The NATO chief's visit comes as US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is due to arrive in Seoul on Monday for talks with his South Korean counterpart Lee Jong-sup.
