Two people were killed by indiscriminate firing in a Bangkok mall, the suspect modified and used a fake handgun.

There was a firing incident in a shopping mall in Bangkok in Thailand. Two people including a Chinese citizen died in this firing incident. Meanwhile, five other people are seriously injured in this accident. Police arrested a teenage gunman in connection with the shooting within an hour. During questioning, police learned that the suspect had used an imitation handgun that had been modified to fire real bullets.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at Siam Paragon Mall, one of Bangkok's largest and most expensive shopping destinations. Police took the suspect into custody less than an hour after the shooting.

Videos uploaded to social media and broadcast on television showed a long-haired teenage boy in police custody. Major Thai media reported that he was 14 years old and a student at a leading private school. Recently appointed police chief Torsak Sukwimol confirmed only that he is a minor and has a record of receiving treatment for mental illness.

The gun used by the accused was made of plastic

Assistant national police chief Samran Nualma said at a press conference on Wednesday that the weapon used by the accused was a plastic gun and could have been used with real bullets. Its original purpose was to fire blanks or BBs.

In 2020, a disgruntled soldier opened fire in and around a mall in the northeastern city of Nakhon Ratchasima, killing 29 people. The attacker had held off the security forces for about 16 hours before he himself was killed.
