British special forces have been accused of killing dozens of Afghan men during counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan a decade ago. There are allegations that officials covered up the illegal activity or failed to investigate it properly.

Nine people were shot during the raid

Now an independent investigation was started on Monday to investigate this claim. The investigation, which began at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, focuses on alleged extrajudicial killings during nighttime raids by British special forces in the war-torn country in 2010 and 2013.

Families of the dead say they were innocent and unarmed civilians and demand an investigation to find out the truth. In one case, family members alleged that nine people were shot in their beds during the raid.

However, the British Army said that the soldier had taken this action in self-defense. The inquiry is expected to hear arguments from the families of 33 people, including eight children, killed by the special forces. Lawyer Oliver Glasgow said the inquiry would use its powers to uncover wrongdoing.
