New Delhi: Toll plazas will be abolished by country roads.Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha that the government is working on a plan to eliminate all toll plazas within a year.
All toll plazas will end in the country
BSP MP from Amroha, Kunwar Danish Ali, raised the issue of having a toll plaza in the municipal limits on the road near Garhmukteshwar.
On this, Nitin Gadkari told that in the functioning of previous governments, tolls were made near the city, which is unjust. We have decided to remove such tolls. He said that our government will eliminate all the tolls in the country within a year.
The toll will be equal to the distance actually travelled
He informed that after the toll plaza is over, toll will be recovered through GPS. There will be cameras at the entry and exit points of the road. When you enter a road and where you exit, your image will be recorded with the camera at both the places. Accordingly, you will be charged toll.
That is, you will pay for the exact distance travelled and will not have to stop at any point for toll.Nitin Gadkari announced that now the new vehicles are being launched with GSP system but the older ones will be installed with GPS for free.
FASTag brought the extra amount of toll to an end
Nitin Gadkari told in Parliament that there was a lot of theft in the current toll system. Now, during the tenure of Covid, our toll collection was 24 thousand crore rupees annually, which should have been reduced by 10 thousand crore rupees. But we brought FASTag, which has been implemented 93%, the remaining 7% is going by paying double toll, because they do not want to be recorded. Now I have ordered that police to take action on this.
