A video of the incident went viral on social media, where Khalistani slogans are seen written on the walls of the temple.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown expressed his dismay at the incident, tweeting 'Very disappointed to hear about the vandalism at BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto. This type of hate has no place in GTA or Canada. Let's hope the culprits responsible are brought to justice quickly.'

Canada's Indian-origin Member of Parliament Chandra Arya said that this is not the first such incident but Hindu temples are being targeted by such events in recent times.

Arya tweeted, "The vandalism of Toronto BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Mandir by Canadian Khalistani extremists must be condemned by all. This is not just an isolated incident. Hindu temples in Canada have been targeted by such hate crimes in recent times. Hindu Canadians are legitimately concerned about these crimes.

Sonia Sidhu, MP for South Province in Brampton, said: "It is sad that such vandalism has happened at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Toronto. In our multicultural community, everyone deserves to feel safe.
