The government has told in the Lok Sabha that in the last two years, there has been no printing of a single note of 2 thousand rupees, while its number has come down. Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said in a written reply to Parliament on Monday that on 30 March 2018, 336.2 crore notes of 2000 rupees were in circulation, while on 26 February 2021 the number came down to 249.9 crore.
2000 rupee notes are decreasing in circulation. Notes of 2000 rupees are also coming out in less no. from the ATM machine. In such a situation, the question is arising that what is the intention of the government regarding the 2000 rupee note. Now the government itself has given the answer. The government has told in the Lok Sabha that in the last two years, there has been no printing of a single note of 2 thousand rupees, while its number has come down.

The Minister of State for Finance said in response that the decision to print banknotes of any value is taken on the advice of RBI to meet the demand of public transactions. The printing of 2000 rupee note has not been ordered in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
Since when the 2000 rupee note was not printed
The Reserve Bank of India had stated in 2019 that 354.2991 crore notes were printed in the financial year 2016-17 (April 2016 to March 2017). However, only 11.1507 crore notes were printed in 2017-18. In 2018-19, 4.669 crore notes were printed, and not a single note has been printed since April 2019. It is believed that this decision has been done to curb black money. After demonetisation in November 2016, the government issued a new 500 rupee note and a 2 thousand rupee note. Apart from the 2000 rupee note, the government has issued new notes of 10, 20, 50 and 100 rupees.
