Good news before CWG 2022, Tejaswin Shankar got Birmingham ticket, now one more medal confirmed!
Tejaswin Shankar holds India's national record in high jump and was practicing in Kansas, USA for the last few years, due to which he could not take part in the national qualifying event.
A good news has come for India just before the Commonwealth Games starting from 28 July in Birmingham. One such news, which has increased the hope of getting another medal in India's part. After much controversy, India's athleticism has finally increased in strength. The Commonwealth Games Federation has finally accepted India's appeal and allowed Tejaswin Shankar, the country's number one player in the high jump, to be included in the Games.
Tejaswin's wait is over
According to the report of news agency PTI, on the request of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the CGF allowed Tejaswin to participate in the Birmingham Games on Friday 22 July. There was a lot of controversy about sending Tejaswin to the games for the last one month and the matter reached the Delhi High Court. The organizers of the Birmingham Games had initially rejected India's request for sending Tejaswin's name late.
Now the IOA has got approval from the CGF and the organizers of the Birmingham Games for his entry. This was confirmed after the Representative Registration Meeting (DRM). According to a statement issued by the IOA, "Tejaswin Shankar's entry has been approved by the CGF and has been accepted by the Sports Admissions Department of the Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022 during the DRM."
Jilna also got permission
On Friday, there was double happiness for India from the CGF side as one other player besides Tejaswin was finally allowed. The CGF has also approved the inclusion of racer MV Jilna in the Indian athletics team. Jilna was not allowed by the IOA. Jilna has been a part of the 4x100m relay team and was included in the team by the AFI as the 37th member but the IOA decided to send only 36 players.
By the way, now India has got a big relief from Jilna's entry, because she will be part of the team in place of S Dhanalakshmi in the relay. Dhanalakshmi was dropped from the Games team two days ago for failing doping. However, earlier the Commonwealth Games organizers informed the IOA that last-minute replacement of the player (LAR) is allowed only in the event from which the player is removed (in this case in the 4×400m relay). ). The organizers of the Commonwealth Games, in response to the IOA's letter of request, said that the LAR cannot be used to change players on the basis of team selection.
