The Sri Lankan government has given this decision against those people who succeed in smuggling gold through illegal trade. Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said in a statement on November 26 that the government has decided to take legal action against those who wear gold jewelery in unnecessary quantities through illegal trade. 

Due to this, the case of smuggling of gold is increasing. Keeping this in mind, the government has now decided that no one will be allowed to wear gold above 22 carats. According to the order, from now on the permission of the Controller General of Imports and Exports will have to be taken to carry gold above 22 carats. 

Modern technology will be used

The Sri Lankan government has instructed customs officials to use modern technology to detect gold above 22 carats. A gazette will also be issued regarding this. For information, let us tell you that more than 50 kg of gold is being smuggled in the country every day. This unscrupulous racket is causing a loss of more than US$ 30 million monthly to the national exchequer of the country.
