Canadian citizens will not get news content from Meta? Bill C-18 of the House of Commons is becoming the reason
Meta News: Content For Canadians People living in Canada will not be able to find news content from Meta. If Bill C-18 is passed in the House of Commons in Canada, this will become possible in the coming days.
There's a big update coming out for Canadians from the tech company Meta's platform. Citizens living in Canada will not be able to access news content from Meta's platform. Actually this has not happened at the moment, but if the Online News Act is passed in Canada then it can happen.
According to a report by news agency Reuters, this has been cleared by Facebook's parent company Meta on Saturday. In the statement given by the company, it has been said that if the Online News Act is passed and becomes a law, then in the coming days, citizens living in Canada will not be able to get news information from Meta's platform.
What is the Online News Content Act
In fact, the popular Online News Content Act in Canada was introduced in April last year. The Online News Content Act i.e. Bill C-18 of the House of Commons was brought in for tech companies like Meta and AltaFeet.
Under this act, these companies were asked to pay amount to news publishers for their content and enter into commercial deals. However, the opinion of tech companies was different in this matter.
What about meta ?
On this, it has been said by Meta that there is no point in paying money for such content, which is not actually posted by us on the platform. Not only this, according to Meta the growing user base of their platform is not only and only because of the news content.
Many other facilities are also provided to the user on the platform. This is the reason why the decision is being taken to end the news content service for the citizens of Canada.
In fact, on behalf of the Canadian news media industry, the government was demanded to bring such an act. According to the Canadian news media industry, tech companies such as Google hold a large market share of meta ads. In such a situation, the news industry feels the need of such an act to compensate for their losses.
