MG Motors has officially announced the launch of a new SUV in the Indian market before the end of this year. The company can launch a petrol variant of the ZS SUV. Because MG ZS Petrol has been spotted many times on Indian roads during testing several times. If reports are to be believed, this SUV is reported to be called MG Astor, as the name has already been trademarked in India. The ZS petrol mid-size SUV will be offered against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the soon-to-be-launched Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. Let us tell you that MG Motors had showcased the ZS Petrol at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The SUV will get a new front grille with a revised front grille, sharper headlamps and a re-styled bumper. At the rear, the SUV will get new LED tail-lamps. The cabin is likely to get new features and an updated dashboard. It is likely to get a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system as compared to the 8.0-inch unit of the ZS EV. The infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation. The display will be used for a 360-degree camera.

The MG Astor will be equipped with a fully digital instrument console, which will show a lot of information like tire pressure monitor system. It is reported that it will introduce ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). The Astor is expected to get active driver assistance features like autonomous emergency braking system, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, front collision warning and hands-free auto parking.


The length of the MG Astor will be around 4.3 meters, which is much smaller than the 4.6 meter Hector. Dimensionally, the ZS petrol measures 4,314mm in length, 1,809mm in width and 1,644mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,585mm. The ground clearance of the SUV is 205mm. The spy images revealed that the India-spec model will be based on the facelifted edition, which is already available for sale in select international markets. The new mid-size SUV will be offered with a revised design and upgraded cabin. It is believed that the company will launch it in the quarter third of 2021.
