Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared martial law in the territories occupied by Ukraine. He has declared martial law in four regions of Ukraine - Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson. Russia has illegally occupied here. Putin said during the National Security Council meeting that I have signed an order to implement martial law in these four regions of the Russian Federation. The Kremlin has published an order stating that martial law will be implemented in the regions from the early hours of Thursday.

With the announcement of martial law, Putin said that more emergency powers would be given to the heads of all regions of Russia. In the current situation, I consider it necessary to give additional powers to the heads of all Russian regions. Chechen commander Ramzan Kadyrov appealed to Putin for martial law. Martial law was asked to be imposed in the areas bordering Russia.

Parliament's seal on Putin's decision

Putin did not immediately specify the steps to be taken under martial law, but said his order would take effect from Thursday. In his order, he has given three days time to law enforcement agencies to submit specific proposals. Russia's upper house of parliament immediately ratified Putin's decision to impose martial law in four regions. The draft law indicates that it could include restrictions on travel and public gatherings, stricter censorship and wider powers for law enforcement agencies.

The Russian leader also ordered the establishment of a coordination committee to enhance dialogue between various government agencies in the wake of the fighting in Ukraine, which he called a "special military operation". The government order restricts movement in eight areas adjacent to Ukraine. These include Krasnodar, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov, Crimea and the southern regions of Sevastopol.

When martial law is implemented, the army gets complete control. People have to work according to the guidelines of the army. Freedom of citizens and their fundamental rights are nullified. Various other restrictions are also imposed.
