WTC Final: Indian squad for WTC Final announced, Ajinkya Rahane returns; Suryakumar Misses out

Team India has been announced for the final of the World Test Championship. India's veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane has returned to the team. He was dropped after the tour of South Africa last year.

The Indian team will take on Australia in the final match to be held from June 7 to 11. This match will be played at The Oval in England. Apart from Rahane, fast bowler Shardul Thakur has also returned to the team. 

Rohit Sharma will continue to captain the team. He is accompanied by Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Rahane and KL Rahul in the team. KS Bharat has been selected as the specialist wicketkeeper.

Among the fast bowlers are Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami and Jaydev Unadkat. At the same time, the responsibility of the spin department will be on Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Suryakumar Yadav, who was involved in the last Test series against Australia, has not been selected in the team. Rahane has played 82 Tests for India

Ajinkya Rahane played the last Test for India on 11 January 2022 against South Africa. He was dropped from the team after that match. He has scored 4932 runs in 82 Tests for India at an average of 38.52. During this, 12 centuries and 25 half-centuries have come out of his bat. Rahane, who has captained India in many matches, has returned to Team India after 15 months.

Rahane got the benefit of performance in Ranji Trophy and IPL

Rahane has scored just one half-century in his last Test innings. For this reason he was dropped from the team. Rahane has done exceptionally well in the last season of Ranji Trophy. Scored 634 runs at an average of 57.63 with the help of two centuries for Mumbai. However, his team could not reach the knockouts.

Rahane performed brilliantly in IPL. He has scored 209 runs in five innings at an average of 52.25 for Chennai Super Kings, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His strike rate is 199.04. Rahane got the benefit of this and he was selected in the team. They also benefited from Shreyas Iyer's absence and Suryakumar Yadav's poor Test performance.
