An Inspiring story of Samer Kaur: struggle hardwork with her Guru’s guidance and her parent’s support and sacrifices

Samer Kaur's story : samer kaur's mother Mrs Sukhvinder Kaur always wanted her to be a music educator while her father, Mr Gurdeep Singh Bhatti wanted her to be a professional singer. Her mother was her first teacher, she taught her how to play Sargam on Harmonium and also built her confidence for stage performance she always encouraged her to do Gurbani Kirtan in Gurudwara in but Samer Kaur was so rebellious child, every time she had to go and sing she prefer somewhere hiding in the corner and find ways not to do that, but her father always been her support system who was always there with her.

Education

Her formal education of singing started when she was in sixth grade. She started taking training from Gandharva Mahavidyalya, Delhi and completed Visharad in music from there.

Though she was not from an elite family her parents never stopped her for anything whether it’s an expensive phone or any other luxury, they didn’t even pressurize her for her studies. The only expectation they had from her was to focus on music. Her parents were dedicated more than she was. Her father used to take her for her music classes to Gandharva thrice a week leaving all his work.

Her first Guru Sujit Kumar Ojha ji at Ghandarva taught her to sing the primary basic of music and Mr. Birjeet Singh her school teacher gave her the exposure and confidence to perform on stage. She was a very insecure child being a fat kid and constantly bullied for my weight she never believed in herself that she can ever be able to sing solo on stage but her teachers believed in her and built her confidence.

After she passed 10th board she lost all my baby fat weight from direct 85 to 58 Kgs and now she was a confident person it was not because of she looked good but because of her parents, teachers, and brother Simarjeet Singh and everyone who believed in her.

In 11th grade I participated in a Gurbani Kirtan based reality show i.e. Bhalo Bhalo Re Kirtaniya. This program was organised by renowned Gurbani singer Bhai Davinder Singh Sodhi Ji and with god’s grace I made it to the top 6. I was the topper of my humanities stream in class 12th which I passed in batch of 2010 from G.H.P.S, Hemkunt Colony. I was also titled as my School Queen, MISS GHPS of my batch.

Samer Kaur's  journey as a music artist

Her journey in music took a turning point after she passed 11th and scored 86% in 12th. She was getting admission in all the reputed colleges of Delhi University but focused in music she applied in Music Hons, but didn’t get cleared in the first cut off list for Music Hons. and by the time she got all the results of Music Hons. candidates it was too late to apply anywhere else.

She was devastated, she even complained to her father that what was the point of all this hard work which she did and scored good grades if she have to waste a year. She never thought back then that she will take admission in a college where cut off is 60% but she was left with no choice. So, her mother took her to Janki Devi Memorial College to save a year and there she met her present guru DR. Gurinder Harnam Singh.

She discussed everything with her and showed her her passion for music. She then guided her and she sent her to her music guru Dr. Ajit Singh Paintal Ji who was the Shahgird of Ustad Amir Khan Sahib and also the P.H.D in Gurmad Sangeet from DU.  He was the one who developed her real voice. Before his guidance she was only learning music but now he completely changed her perspective towards music. He was my guru for almost 1.5 years and unfortunately, he passed away after that. Paintal Sir always motivated her that she have to compete with the student of Hons. and being just a B.A. student, she needed to work harder than her own capabilities. She have always been a blessed student to have great teachers like him in her life who not only guided her to work hard but also worked hard themselves on her.

After his sad demise she felt like a lost soul, completely direction less but she was very much focused to get enrolled in masters so she requested her teacher DR. Gurinder Harnam Singh. She took a lot of time to take her under her guidance. Gurinder ma’am helped her in developing the stylistic singing of her gharana. Whereas Paintal sir taught me to sing and prepared her voice. She had performed in many state and district level competitions before but the stylistic singing was missing in her until Gurinder ma’am guided her.

She has always been her god her word was enough for  Samer Kaur to do anything in singing. I even accompanied her to Egypt through ICCR in 2015. She also took her to perform with her at 350th Prakash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and other various programmes as well. She also prepared  Samer Kaur for her masters in music and she got admission in her dream college Miranda house.

Her hard work finally paid off and  Samer Kaur's world started revolving around music. Her day used to start with riyaz and end with riyaz. one of her friends introduced her to one of the popular singers of Punjabi industry and she started performing in his band as a backing vocalist.

She performed in Lucknow for the first time where he gave her a chance to open for the event. After few months someone told her that Meet Brothers were looking for a female backing vocalist and not even thinking twice, she said yes for the opportunity and she became a band member for Meet Bros and not just a backing vocalist they even gave her a chance to sing in lead at many events. In the meanwhile, she got selected in Awaz Punjab Di, 2015 which was judged by many renowned artists like Hansraj Hans, Guru Randhawa, Badhshah, Master Salim and many more and she was a top finalist at the show. By then she started doing her own individual shows along with meet bros.

These were the golden years of her life as she was in the limelight and people started recognizing her in the field of music.
