Apple shocks China, another supplier starts production of iPhone 14 in India

Another Apple contractor has started the production of iPhone 14 in India. According to the information given by Bloomberg, Taiwanese contractor Pegatron Corp has started the assembly of iPhone 14 in India. With this, the company has become the second supplier to Apple which is manufacturing the iPhone 14 in India.
Apple's attempt to reduce dependence on China
Apple is currently trying to reduce its dependence on China. The work in the biggest production unit of the iPhone is currently at a standstill. The place where this Foxconn plant is located is under lockdown regarding Kovid. Foxconn started manufacturing the iPhone 14 in India from September itself, due to fears of a drop in production. Apple was already exploring alternatives due to rising tensions between the US and China. The Indian government made the election easier for Apple by announcing the PLI scheme.
Contractors Fox Conn, Vistron and Pegatron currently operating in India are currently working on expansion plans. According to a research, the share of Apple shipments from India will increase from 5 percent to 7 percent of total shipments by the end of 2022 . At the same time, 85 percent of the domestic demand will be met by the production happening in the country.
Indian companies are also taking advantage
Indian companies are also taking advantage of this expansion plan. Tata Group has started efforts to get more and more business from Apple. According to information received from sources, Tata Group is going to increase the capacity of employees in its electronic parts manufacturing factory located in South India. iPhone parts are made in this plant. Tata Group is preparing to start a new production line at its plant located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. It is reported that the company will recruit 45 thousand employees between the next one and a half year to two years, all of them will be women employees. That is, the shifting of Apple to India will benefit both domestic companies and Indians.
