CM Gehlot and Congress leaders say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to declare ERCP as a national project in the meeting of Jaipur and Ajmer in the last Lok Sabha elections. But so far it hasn't been done.
Assembly elections in Rajasthan are to be held after about 15 months. But political parties have already intensified their exercise to woo the voters. Where the Congress is busy surrounding the Central Government and the BJP regarding the East Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has written several times to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to declare ERCP as a national project. At the same time, the state organization of BJP is silent on this issue. However, BJP Rajya Sabha member Dr. Kirori Lal Meena held a meeting at Nangal Pyariwas in Dausa district on Tuesday to save his political ground in eastern Rajasthan and then traveled to Jaipur with his supporters.
Meena announced a gherao of the Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister's residence. However, the police stopped him on the way. During this, there was a scuffle between Meena's supporters and the policemen. Addressing the meeting held earlier, Meena said that the slogan of 13 districts is to bring water revolution. He said that the Ashok Gehlot government should either bring the ERCP project or leave the chair. BJP Legislature Party deputy leader Rajendra Rathod said that the Congress government is playing politics over the project.
This is the controversy of the ERCP project
CM Gehlot and Congress leaders say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to declare ERCP as a national project in the meeting of Jaipur and Ajmer in the last Lok Sabha elections. But so far it hasn't been done. The Central Government is not approving this project by taking out the deficiencies in the report sent by the State Government. After the implementation of this project, irrigation and drinking water will reach 13 districts. On the other hand, Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said many times that the PM had not made any such promise. There is a dispute between Congress and BJP over this issue. Due to the matter related to the central government, the state level leaders of BJP are not speaking officially in this matter.

Gehlot said, has spoken to Chauhan
86 assembly seats in 13 districts of the state are expected to be affected by this project. As soon as Meena became active, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot issued a statement on Tuesday saying that talks have been held with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Chouhan has been apprised that the ERCP scheme is being implemented as per the decision taken in the 13th meeting of the Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh Inter-State Control Board in the year 2005. Chouhan has agreed to hold a meeting at the level of Chief Ministers of both the states to discuss and build consensus on all the issues.
Gehlot said that in this project based on the water being received from the tributaries of Chambal in Rajasthan, less than 10 percent of the water coming out of Madhya Pradesh would be utilized. Therefore, according to the decision taken in the year 2005, the consent of Madhya Pradesh is not required for such projects. The Chief Minister said that in the past, Rajasthan too had not objected to the projects made by Madhya Pradesh on Chambal and tributaries in this way and Madhya Pradesh has built dams on those rivers. Similarly, cooperation of Madhya Pradesh is also expected on ERCP.
