Bangladesh again furious over the 1971 genocide, the demand for recognition of the war raised in the UN

Bangladesh's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Sanchita Haque has called for recognition of the 1971 genocide by the Pakistani military. Bangladesh government has declared 25 March as Genocide Day.

Genocide Day in Bangladesh on 25 March

Addressing a side event at the United Nations on Monday, Haque said that the Bangladesh government has declared March 25 as Genocide Day. Bangladesh condemns the genocide committed anywhere. We will continue to raise our voice against the genocide and demand justice for the victims of the genocide On 25 March 1971, the Pakistani Army launched 'Operation Searchlight', a planned military operation by the Pakistani Army and its forces deliberately harming hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi civilians. The deputy envoy also said that the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh was set up to prosecute allies of the Pakistani military who played a key role in facilitating the genocide and that the ICT is still ongoing. 

The event was organized by Europe-based expatriate organization BASUG in collaboration with European Bangladesh Forum (EBF) and Switzerland Human Rights Forum Bangladesh. BSS said, the conference was organized when the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council was going on at the United Nations in Geneva.

Demand to recognize Bangladesh genocide 1971Apart from him, other speakers at the side event also reiterated the demand for international recognition of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide by Pakistan and urged the global community, including the United Nations, to recognize the 1971 genocide without wasting time, according to the BSS.

He said that the time is right to recognize the Bangladesh genocide, it is very important and it is an absolute necessity to honor the victims of the 1971 genocide and their descendants through recognition. The speakers said, unfortunately, the Bangladesh genocide has today become a forgotten chapter in history.
