Health Accounts Report 2018-19: NITI Aayog member VK Paul said on Monday that the Health Accounts Report 2018-19 shows an increase in expenditure on health by the central and state governments. 

Talking to news agency ANI, Paul said, 'National Health Accounts Report 2018-19 has been released by the government today. The report shows that there has been an increase in the expenditure on health by both the central and state governments. 

Increased spending on primary health care

Paul said that the Outer Pocket Expenditure has come down from 64 per cent to 48 per cent. There is also a steady decline in this. He said that the expenditure on primary health care is also increasing continuously.

The NITI Aayog member further said, "This report tells us that the vision and processes laid down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are in the right direction."

NHA estimates released

NITI Aayog Member (Health) VK Paul released the findings of India's National Health Accounts (NHA) estimates for 2018-19 in the presence of Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

NHA estimates for 2018-19 show that the share of government health expenditure in the country's total GDP has increased.

It has increased from 1.15% in 2013-14 to 1.28% in 2018-19, an official statement said.

In addition, the share of government health expenditure in total health expenditure has also increased over time.

In 2018-19, the share of government expenditure was 40.6%, which was significantly higher than the share of 28.6% in 2013-14

The NHA's findings also indicate that the government's health expenditure as a percentage of current health expenditure has increased from 23.2% in 2013-14 to 34.5% in 2018-19.
