In the first semi-final of the ICC T20 Women's World Cup being played in South Africa, Australia defeated India and secured a ticket to the final. Batting first, Australia posted a score of 172 for 4 thanks to Beth Mooney's fifty and skipper Meg Lanning's quickfire 49. India scored 167 runs for 8 wickets. Winning the match by 5 runs, Australia took a step towards the sixth World Cup.

The start was not good for the Indian team chasing the target of 173 runs against Australia. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana got out early and returned. After this, Yastika Bhatia's wicket fell and then Jemima Rodriguez along with captain Harmanpreet Kaur changed the course of the match by playing an innings of 43 runs. The innings played with the help of 6 fours pushed Australia to the backfoot. 

Harmanpreet Kaur, who was ill a day before the semi-final match, played the captaincy innings against Australia. Hitting 6 fours and 1 six off 34 balls, he brought the match to a close by playing an innings of 52 runs.

Unfortunately, she returned after being run out. After completing the run, Harmanpreet's bat got stuck at the crease and she failed to get it inside the crease. In the end, due to the dismissal of Richa Ghosh and Sneh Rana, Team India failed to reach the victory. 16 runs were needed in the last over but India could manage only 10 runs. 

Australia beat India by 5 runs

The Indian team was earlier defeated by Australia in the final in an edition last time. The trophy was won for the fifth time by defeating Team India. Now by defeating India in the semi-finals, it has taken another step towards lifting it for the sixth time. The Indian team had to face defeat for the second time in a row in the knockout match against Australia.
