Taking a U-turn, US President Joe Biden's administration has now defended the Saudi Crown Prince in the murder of American journalist and author Jamal Khashoggi. Earlier, Joe Biden has run a vigorous campaign to condemn Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the assassination.

The Biden administration announced on Thursday that the office of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia should shield him from prosecution for his role in the murder of US journalist Khashoggi. He said, 'Jamal Khashoggi's fiancee should be given immunity in the lawsuit filed by 'Democracy for the Arab World Now', a rights group founded by him.'

However, this is sure to enrage human rights activists and several US lawmakers, as Saudi Arabia has tightened oil production cuts and crackdowns on peaceful critics at home and abroad.

It is notable that Khashoggi had criticized the Saudi crown prince's policies in a Washington Post column. Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.
