Early Life and Education
Hailing from a Royal Maratha family, Ravi Gaikwad's lineage is steeped in leadership and activism. His father, Kisan Gaikwad, is a civil engineer, and his mother, Pushpa Gaikwad, holds an honors degree in Political Science. His grandfather, Bhaskar Rao Auti, was a freedom fighter and served as an MLA for ten years, while his grandmother, Tarabai Auti, was also a freedom fighter. His maternal uncle, Vijay Auti, currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
Ravi Gaikwad’s educational background is as impressive as his professional career. He excelled academically, becoming a state topper in his 12th standard board exams (Pune Board) and securing multiple gold medals in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. He holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Master’s in Engineering (M.E.) in Electronics, LLB, and an MA in Political Science.
Professional Career and Achievements
Before joining the civil service, Ravi Gaikwad worked as a scientist with the Tata Group. However, his passion for public service led him to clear the Civil Services examinations, after which he began his journey as a civil servant.
His tenure as the head of the RTO in Mumbai has been marked by innovative initiatives to improve road safety, including large-scale campaigns aimed at reducing accidents and fatalities. As the Chairman of Shant Bharat Surakshit Bharat, he has led impactful programs to raise awareness on road safety, winning prestigious awards such as the Maharashtra Gaurav Award for his efforts in reducing road accidents in the state.
Ravi Gaikwad has also made significant contributions to sports in India. His leadership in organizing the largest handball class and the largest road safety lesson and bike rally earned him multiple Guinness World Records. His dedication to promoting sports as a tool for youth empowerment is commendable, with recognition such as the CNBC Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports in 2022.
Philanthropy and Social Initiatives
Ravi Gaikwad’s philanthropic work extends beyond road safety and sports. He has been honored with numerous humanitarian awards, including the Nelson Mandela Humanitarian Award and the Wockhardt Foundation’s Lifetime World Peace Ambassador Award. His tireless efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic were recognized with the India Corona Warriors Award and the Covid Fighters Award from the Government of Maharashtra.
His compassion for social causes is reflected in his lifetime achievement awards, including the Mid-Day Lifetime Achievement Award in Social Welfare and the International Mother Teresa Award from the Governor of Maharashtra in 2022.
