The Criminal Investigation Department of the Sri Lankan Police arrested a former Major and a civilian as part of its investigation into taking money from people in the name of sending them to Russia for army jobs. Last month, information came to light that more than a hundred former Sri Lankan soldiers are fighting on both sides in the Russia-Ukraine war.
International media reports said former Sri Lankan soldiers were lured to serve in the Russia-Ukraine war with a monthly salary of $3,000. Over the past several months, three Sri Lankans serving in Ukraine have been reported dead.
