Ukraine celebrated its Independence Day on Saturday amid the ongoing war. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified again. Both attacked each other with drones and missiles on Saturday. A woman was killed and a man was injured in Russian army shelling on Kherson.
Russia attacked Ukraine with cruise missiles
The Ukrainian Air Force said it destroyed seven drones. Russian long-range bombers attacked the area of Snake Island with four cruise missiles, while Kherson was also attacked.
Several people injured in drone attack
Regional governor Alexander Gusev said five drones were shot down in the southwestern Voronezh region bordering Ukraine, injuring two people. Videos of explosions in ammunition depots after being hit by drones are also circulating. Two people were injured in a drone attack in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine.
Zelensky made a new move
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed several laws against Russia on Saturday. These include approval of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Kiev says this will increase the possibility of prosecuting war crimes committed by Russia.
Russia-Ukraine ready to exchange prisoners
Meanwhile, after talks mediated by the United Arab Emirates, Russia and Ukraine have agreed to exchange 115-115 prisoners. There was no immediate comment from Russian and Ukrainian officials. This will be the seventh such exchange since the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022.
