The State Duma of Russia's parliament has passed a law banning LGBT propaganda among adults. The Russian parliament passed this law on Thursday. In which the promotion of LGBT propaganda among people of all ages is banned.

Under the new law, a provision has been made for fines for promoting homosexuality in a public place. The bill would ban public discussion of LGBT relations or the promotion of any LGBT material in theaters. There is also a provision for fine.

What is gay propaganda law?

In Russia in the year 2013, a law regarding homosexual propaganda was passed in 2013. It was used by gays to stop a pride rally, as well as to detain gay rights activists. Since then, there was a demand to impose restrictions on promoting LGBT in the country.

This step was taken on gay marriage

Earlier the Russian parliament had moved to legalize a ban on same-sex marriage. Russian lawmakers introduced the draft law on 14 July 2020, which calls for a ban on same-sex marriage in the country. 

What did Russian President Putin say

Russian President Putin has already warned about gay marriage in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he will not legalize same-sex marriage as long as he is in the Kremlin. Putin had aligned himself with the Russian Orthodox Church and said he wanted to distance Russia from Western liberal values.
